I worked in oils, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and printmaking for fifteen years before spending a decade hypnotized by encaustic paint–an ancient Greek process using beeswax, damar varnish and pigment. ¬†Encaustics are known to us through examples in the Metropolitan Museum of portraits made by overseas-Greeks in Fayum, Egypt.
